"The word of God's wisdom casts down the enemy of our soul." --Charles H. Mason

"We receive and now enjoy thinking on the goodness and greatness of Jesus." --Charles H. Mason

"Let the will of God be done everywhere. Let men turn from their evil ways." --Charles H. Mason

 Heard in 1774 and 1775

"Blush you pretend voters for freedom! You trifling patriots who are making a vain parade of being advocates for the liberties of mankind, who are thus making a mockery of your profession by trampling on the sacred rights and privileges of Africans. For while you are fasting, praying, and pleading for a restoration of your rights, you are at the same time continuing this lawless, cruel, inhuman, and abominable practice of enslaving your fellow creatures." --John Allen 1774

"How is it that we hear the loudest yelps for freedom among the drivers of the Negroes?" --Samuel Johnson 1775
