 Shocking Hidden History

"Regardless of the fact that European-Americans view African-Americans as 'inferior' beings, there was much physical intermingling between 'masters' and their 'slave' women and girls. In fact, many European-American men purchased African-American women for the sole purpose of using their bodies sexually."

"There were no laws to protect African women from the advancements they had to endure from their European 'masters'. When a person is 'owned' by another person, that 'ownership' includes the 'slave's' entire body. Forced sexual intercourse with a 'slave' woman was not considered rape by American law."

"Many babies were born as a result of these relationships and they possessed both European and African physical features. It is because of this sexual mingling that African-Americans today display a wide range of varying skin colors, different hair textures, and different facial features." --Julia Alford Davis 1990

 What Could Have Been

"How changed would the South be from what it is now, if after the colored people had been released from slavery, men and women had worked for them as Christians ought to work." --Ellen G. White in 1904

"For many years I have borne a heavy burden in behalf of the Negro race. My heart has ached as I have seen the feeling against this race growing stronger and still stronger. Years are passing into eternity with apparently little done to help those who were recently a race of slaves." --Ellen G. White

"What excuse can be given for the awful condition of the colored race? God asks: 'Why are those living in this part of My vineyard left to become the sport of Satan's temptations?' He calls for united action." --Ellen G. White

"The walls of race will fall down when the true missionary spirit enters the hearts of men. Prejudice is melted away by the love of God. Those white people who appreciate the ministry of Christ in their behalf, cannot cherish prejudice against their colored brethern." --Ellen G. White

Speech to the Tennessee State Legislature in 1887

"For years American slavery was the great sin of the nation. In the course of time God made clear his disapproval of this national sin by a national calamity. Four years of destructive and bloody war rent our country in twain and left our Southland devastated. The war came as a result of sin; let us sin no more lest a greater calamity befall us." --Samuel Allen McElwee, February 23, 1887 in a speech to the Tennesse State Legislature

 Inconsistency?

Suppose the slaves should suddenly become white, would you shut your eyes upon their sufferings and calmly talk of constitutional limitations? No, your voice would peal in the ears of the task masters like deep thunder." --William Lloyd Garrison

 John Greenleaf Whittier Quotation

"We have to undo the accumulated wrongs of two centuries, to remake the manhood which slavery has well-nigh unmade, to see to it that the long-oppressed colored man has a fair field for development and improvement; and tread under our feet the last vestige of that hateful prejudice which has been the strongest external support of Southern slavery. We must lift ourselves at once to the true Christian attitude where all distinctions of black and white are overlooked in the heartfelt recognition of the brotherhood of man." --John Greenleaf Whittier in 1863

Have we done that?
